Dates count from your move day. The license and registration clocks start when you become a resident, which can be earlier: in some states, the day you start a job or enroll a child in school there. How the timeline works
The plan counts back from your move day: a budget and three quotes 8 weeks out, booking 6 weeks out, records and health coverage 5 weeks out, the change of address, utilities and insurance 2 weeks out. After the move it adds your new state's deadlines for a driver license and vehicle registration, from each state's motor vehicle agency, and the 60-day window to pick a Marketplace health plan.
To add the plan to Google Calendar, download the .ics file, then on a computer open Google Calendar, go to Settings, then Import & export, select the file and choose a calendar. Google imports .ics files only on a computer, not in the phone app. Other calendar apps, such as Apple Calendar and Outlook, can open the file directly. Each step is an all-day event.

Frequently asked questions
How far ahead should I start planning an interstate move?
This plan starts 8 weeks before moving day. That leaves time to get estimates from at least three movers, as the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) advises, check that each one is registered with a USDOT number, and book one for your date. Mid-May to mid-September is the busy season for movers, so start earlier for a summer move.
When should I file a USPS change of address?
USPS accepts a change of address up to 90 days before your move and up to 30 days after it. Forwarding can start within 3 business days, but USPS says to allow up to 2 weeks, so file at least 2 weeks before you move.
How long do I have to get a new driver license after moving to another state?
In 40 of the 50 states and DC, new residents get 30 to 90 days. Arizona and Michigan expect it right away, California 10 days, Wyoming a year (right away for licenses from GA, MA, MI, TN or WI and for CDLs), and 7 states publish no fixed number of days. The clock usually starts when you become a resident. The timeline adds your destination's deadline for the license and for registering your vehicle.
Do I need new health insurance when I move to another state?
If your coverage comes through an employer, ask the plan whether its network covers your new area. If you buy your own Marketplace plan, a permanent move to a new state usually opens a special enrollment period: you have 60 days from the move to choose a new plan, as long as you had qualifying coverage on at least one of the 60 days before the move.
Is my moving timeline saved?
Your move date, state and ticks are saved in this browser on this device (local storage), and nothing is sent to RelocateMath. Clearing your browsing data or using a private window removes them.
